A Twin XL mattress is 38" wide and 80" long (96.5 x 203 cm): the width of a standard Twin with five extra inches of length. Those five inches are the whole point. A 75" Twin runs out under anyone near six feet; a Twin XL gives a tall teenager, an adult sleeping solo, or a student in residence the same legroom as a Queen. Buy two and you have a Split King, which is why couples with adjustable bases order them in pairs.

Twin XL questions, answered
Is a Twin XL the same size as a Twin?
No. Both are 38" wide, but a Twin is 75" long and a Twin XL is 80". The extra five inches of length is the only difference.
Do two Twin XL mattresses make a King?
Yes. Two Twin XLs side by side measure 76" x 80", the exact footprint of a standard King. That pair is a Split King: each half of an adjustable bed moves on its own.
Will a Twin XL fit a standard Twin bed frame?
No. It is five inches too long. You need a Twin XL frame, an adjustable base, or a platform that takes an 80" mattress.
Do Twin sheets fit a Twin XL?
No. A Twin fitted sheet is cut for a 75" mattress and will pull off an 80" one. Buy sheets labelled Twin XL.
Is Twin XL the dorm-room size?
Most university residence beds are Twin XL, but not all. Check with the school's housing office before you buy.
